(2026) Interdisciplinary Projections of Culturology: Discourses, Innovations, EducationAbstract: The article explores the interdisciplinary methodological potential of cultural studies within a broad socio cultural context. At the turn of the century, a paradigmatic shift towards interdisciplinarity emerged, demanding a profound understanding of increasingly complex dynamics of change, a creative and critical diagnosis of key problems, and a selective use of methodological tools. The author identifies principal approaches shaping Russian cultural studies, several of which adopt a holistic framework for conceptualising culture as a self developing system.
Drawing on the methodology of collective creativity and the axiological foundations of communication, the study examines interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary project based solutions rooted in synergetics and the theory of self organisation. It considers V. G. Budanov’s five strategic types of interaction in interdisciplinary research, which reveal an orientation towards specific methods rather than primarily towards research problems. Interdisciplinarity is interpreted as the alignment of disciplinary languages, the unity of methods bridging inter and transdisciplinarity, a heuristic hypothesis based on analogy, a constructive interdisciplinary project, and networked (self organising) communication. The author argues that no single strategy is universally adequate: different combinations of methodological solutions are required to address the semantic complexity of culture, reflecting the integrative nature of cultural studies.
Particular attention is given to the post nonclassical model of self developing (‘polysubject’) environments, the rethinking of methodological frameworks for assessing innovation and the ‘cognitive challenge’ of the era, and the interfaces between cognitive and communicative dimensions of knowledge generation. The article shows that interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary solutions align with the cultural studies paradigm by bridging paradigmatic gaps both between disciplines and between science and external socio cultural discourse – especially in understanding the implications of digital technologies and AI. The methodological toolkit of cultural studies enables identifying key trends in the communication saturated socio cultural environment and exerting positive influence without disrupting processes of social self organisation.
The author concludes that the ontology of cultural complexity as an integrated whole is inherent in the perspective of cultural studies and has been consolidated in the narratives and official texts of cultural policy. This approach requires managerial decisions to ensure its thorough integration into education at all levels. It also plays an active role in shaping Russia’s socio cultural space, anchoring value semantic foundations in state cultural policy and regulatory frameworks, and stimulating self organisation in project based formations.
