Abstract: The article explores the specifics and scientific standing of the history of culturology, justifying it as a distinct research area situated at the intersection of the history of science, historical and theoretical culturology, and epistemology. The article delineates the problem-based and thematic field of research on the history of culturology, defining its subject, object, purpose, objectives, structure, and primary functions. The study reveals the reciprocal relationship between understanding the essence of culturology and comprehending its history. The perception of the history of culturology is shaped by the understanding of its scientific particularities, and conversely, the definition of culturology is influenced by how its history is interpreted. In this sense, the history of culturology is culturology itself, representing an ever-growing body of scientific heritage that constitutes the «present past» of our discipline. It is underscored that the history of culturology serves as a form of collective memory for culturologists. It acts as a unifying foundation for the identity of the scientific community, provides the groundwork for scientific self-determination and self-awareness in culturology, and contributes to the development of professional self-consciousness among culturologists and an awareness of their scientific and societal mission. In conclusion, the article argues that knowledge of the history of culturology holds intrinsic value and substantial heuristic potential. It not only provides a foundation for generating new knowledge and advancing culturology in the present but also lays the epistemological groundwork for envisioning the future contours of the discipline. Systematic and targeted development of the history of culturology is essential for enhancing the scientific standing of culturology, overcoming existing biases, and unlocking the full spectrum of cognitive and applied possibilities inherent in our integrative science.
