Disorders and Adjustments of Writing: Autotheorizing Sensory ExperienceAbstract: This article explores the concept of autotheory related to non-normative bodies, emphasizing the significance of sensory experiences in the context of disability studies. The author argues that traditional notions of human experience are expanding to include perspectives from individuals with chronic illnesses and disabilities. Through autotheoretical narratives, these experiences challenge normative representations and underscore the need for new expressive languages. Theorizing non-normative sensory experience has epistemological potential that is revealed through experimentation with narrative structures and formats. The article examines several strategies of autotheory and identifies their specificity (i.e. lines of internal tension between action and inaction, reflexivity and immediacy, visibility and opacity), which allows presenting shared non-normative experience as valuable knowledge.
Key words: autotheory, disability studies, sensory experience, authenticity, identity, inclusivity.
