Emotional Modes and Practices of Immersion in Grieving Rituals from Antiquity to ModernityAbstract: In this article, the phenomenon of grieving is considered in the context of funeral practices, which involve the emergence of various emotional regimes. Grieving as part of the human reaction to changes in the surrounding world is an integral source of the formation of cultural phenomena, including funeral rituals. To consider the development and changes of ritual practices, it is necessary to show the main historical stages of the study of "grief" as part of the emotional spectrum of human consciousness. Emotional modes are considered in relation to memorial practices of different cultures and traditions. The ritual itself is considered as an immersive practice. This is due to its entertainment and the inclusion in it not only of the one who conducts the ritual, but also of the other participants, which is associated with the emotionality of the grieving process. The immersiveness of practices is shown in historical dynamics using diachronic analysis. The article examines the Greek and Mexican cultures, in the development of which one can see the continuity of practices, as well as changes in the rituals of mourning from antiquity to modernity.
Key words: death, grief, loss, funeral ritual, memorial ritual, mourning, emotional regime, immersion practices, digital cemetery, Douglas Davis.
