Mass Soviet Art porcelain: on the History of the Novgorod factory “Proletarian” of the 1970sAbstract: The Proletariy plant was the largest and oldest porcelain factory in our country. The plant was located in the village of Proletary, Novgorod Region. Porcelain production here was founded in 1882 by a merchant from the Kuznetsov dynasty, Ivan Emelyanovich Kuznetsov, who acquired a small pottery factory from Pyotr Kazemirovich Reichel and founded the Bronnitsky porcelain and faience factory. For the first time, the plant's products were designed for the average buyer and were available not only to the nobility.
After nationalization, the factory became known as the Proletariy factory, which continued the tradition of making mass-produced household porcelain. Along with hand-painting, the factory used various methods of decoration: stamp, decal, stencil, silk-screen printing. After the reconstruction of the plant, which took place in 1957-1962, by 1970 production was gaining momentum - the work of artists who had been working since the 1950s reaches its highest point, and the 1970s can be called the heyday of production, when the enterprise, in terms of output ranked second in the Soviet Union after the Dulevo Porcelain Factory. In February 1976, the Proletariy plant was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor.
The article will focus on production in the 1970s. The features of the assortment, the creativity of individual masters will be considered, and an attempt will be made to analyze the role and significance of the company's products in the context of the domestic porcelain industry of the period under review.
The research materials were unpublished archival materials of the State Archive of the Novgorod Region, which include the minutes of the meetings of «Rosfarfor», «Rosglavfarfor», maps of the artistic and technical level of the quality of products of the 1970s, monographs by Boris Aleksandrovich Kuznetsov and Vladimir Alekseevich Izmailov about the history of the plant, as well as porcelain collection of the Novgorod Museum-Reserve.
