Abstract: The article attempts to specify approaches to transmedia, considering this phenomenon not so much as a strategy for creating and promoting media projects, but as a naturally formed interaction of media (sometimes not realized by media actors) in the formation of the general history of a particular location. As an illustration of this approach, the memorial landscape of the archaeological site Arkaim in the Chelyabinsk region is given. Based on the analysis of the texts of "rich descriptions" made using the Clifford Geertz method, and a comparison of its results with the content of in-depth interviews with actors in the Arkaim space, an assumption is made about the legitimacy of perceiving this memorial landscape not only as an object of media attention, but also as a subject of media influence. In this case, transmedia is considered as one of the factors of this kind of subjectivity, and the concept of "media" in line with the ideas of M. McLuhan and J. Derrida is interpreted extremely broadly. From the point of view of the authors of the article, media functions in the space of Arkaim are performed by elements of the natural landscape, historical facts and archaeological discoveries associated with this location, as well as socio-cultural, meditative and esoteric practices carried out by visitors. The latter circumstance confirms the ambivalent role of the media actor, recorded by a number of researchers: in the intertextual field of Arkaim, he is both an object and a subject of media influence.
