Transformation of Ethno-Cultural Identity in N. Zadornov’s Novel Amur-BatyushkaAbstract: The article is devoted to the research of transformation of ethno-cultural identity of Russians and Nanai living simultaneously on the territory of Priamurye in the second half of 19th century because of intensive intercultural communication. The results of interethnic interactions were manifested in the expansion of cultural ties, dialogues of alien identities, striving, on the one hand, to preserve their own uniqueness and, on the other hand, to borrow something acceptable for themselves from a new culture, as well as to influence another's culture. The historical novel "Amur-Batushka" by the Far Eastern writer N. Zadornov served as the material for the study. The relevance of reading literary texts from the perspective of ethno-cultural identity is explained by their ability to reflect global cultural changes, to influence the formation of the value picture of the world, to contribute to the understanding of the worldview of people of different epochs and peoples. The literary work under consideration does not present a holistic image of ethno-cultural identity, but the construct of identity is composed of individual artistic details, details of descriptions of the appearance, landscape, household items, actions of the characters of the books. For the analysis of the material the "sign" approach was chosen, which allows to determine the meaningful signs that construct ethno-cultural identity. It is shown that the structure of ethno-cultural identity presents, on the one hand, elements of a stable center, which emerges around the understanding of belonging to one's own culture, on the other hand, elements associated with the continuous process of changing boundaries of one's own culture due to interaction with new peoples. It is demonstrated that the dynamics of transformations of ethno-cultural identity varied among representatives of different generations. The elderly and mature population, due to their rich personal experience, sought to preserve and reproduce features of material and spiritual culture brought from the places of origin, the habitual way of life, and to protect values passed from generation to generation for centuries. The young population actively responded to transformations associated with the need to adapt to the harsh natural and climatic conditions, diverse ethnic environment, as well as to general processes of modernization of the way of life.
