Performative Essence of Network Culture and Art. Experience of Typological Analysis

Abstract: The article deals with how culture has changed as a result of the growing influence of information technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality and the Internet telecommunication network. Network culture is seen as a new cultural and historical type that has replaced traditional and creative culture. Art is considered as the most expressive segment of culture demonstrating the essence of these changes. Three key aspects of culture and art of the network culture era are considered: the author of cultural artifacts, the principle of cultural genesis, the specificity of morphology of the system of cultural artifacts. It is shown that bots, avatars and collective authors with a potentially infinite number of participants become authors in the epoch of network culture; the essence of this authorship is that it is depersonalized and deprofessionalized, but retains a connection with specific participants of cultural genesis. The principle of cultural genesis is no longer tradition or creativity, but spontaneous growth according to continuously changing rules. The main feature of the morphology of network culture is global performance, which is expressed in the fact that simulated reality excludes and emphasizes certain fragments of authentic reality, destroying the boundaries between world pictures, reflexions and transformations of the world, and, finally, between culture itself and nature. The existential value of this type of culture is the illusion of a person's eternal presence in the network due to the simplification of access to the publication of the results of one's activity and evidence of authentic existence. The essence of the changes occurring in art is demonstrated on the material of comparison of performance and artistic image in its pictorial, expressive and symbolic version. It is shown how the professional author becomes first a professional designer and then disappears, depersonalized and deprofessionalized. Shows how the secondary artifactuality and crisis of metanarratives of the Postmodern era becomes the global performance of the Network Culture of the early twenty-first century.

Key words: Network culture, creative culture, traditional culture, author, tradition, innovation, Internet, performance, existential values, art.
